The Australian Connection
The men who literally ‘put Australia on the map’ came from Lincolnshire. Sir Joseph Banks, known by many as ‘the father of Australia’ brought kangaroos back to his family home at Revesby and sent the first sheep to Australia. Matthew Flinders charted the Australian coastline. Visit Donington where he was born and see the magnificent commemorative stained glass windows. George Bass was born at Aswarby. Think of the Bass Straight, Spalding Cove, the Flinders Range and of course, Australia’s prestigious Flinders University
