Google Duo will soon merge with Google Meet

Google has a long and tumultuous history with its messaging apps, and while the company sometimes takes steps in the right direction, things can get confusing - fast. One of the steps the company takes to help minimize the number of apps it has to contact others is to merge Google Meet into the Google Duo app.

For people who have been paying attention to how Google works, it’s been pretty easy to see. The company recently started implementing Meet in Duo features, and it has also been made public by Google. Also in August 2020, Javier Soltero of Google (who runs Google Workspace) said in an interview that Google Duo and Google Meet should not work together. -there is.

As Google states in its announcement, all Google Meet features will be introduced in the Duo app. This means that you will be able to schedule meetings with people, and all the Duo features that were unique to it are here to stay. In addition, the Duo app will be renamed Google Meet. The best of both services will be in the same app, and Google will be able to benefit from the existing user base, as the Duo app is pre-installed as part of Google services on all certified Android smartphones.

This is a pretty big change for the app, though we hope it will make the end result more efficient for users who just want to chat with their friends on video chat and host meetings. Google Meet was made available to everyone in 2020 and has been a viable competitor to Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Features previously available in Meet and now available in Duo include:

  • Personalize virtual backgrounds in calls and appointments
  • Schedule meetings so that everyone can join in at a time that is convenient for them
  • Use the chat during the meeting for a deeper involvement
  • Share live content to allow interaction with all call participants
  • Get real-time subtitles to better support accessibility and encourage participation
  • Increase video call size from the current limit of 32 to 100 participants
  • Integrate with other tools, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Wizard, Messaging, and more
