If you want to know how to complete Forging Iron in Destiny 2, you are in the right place. As an introductory search for Iron Banner for Season of the Haunted, its purpose is to show you what’s new with Saladin. Mainly because it no longer offers rewards.
Instead, Iron Banner now runs on a daily challenge system. There are four more a week and each one still gets a peak, but you can’t take them all down in one day. They are also labeled as Destiny 2 weekly rather than daily, which many players find confusing.
Forging Iron is meant to try to clear up some confusion about the new system, so hopefully this guide will make the transition process a little easier.

Before you start the Iron Banner - Forging Iron mission
To start Forging Iron, you’ll need to talk to Saladin in the Tower. He will give you the search.
Before you jump into the Iron Banner, though, there are two things you need to do.
- Equip either a Vacuum or Solar subclass.
The second step in Forging Iron requires you to complete one of the daily challenges. The first challenge is to complete three Iron Banner games with one of the two subclasses mentioned above equipped. Each step of the mission counts your activity in the other steps. In other words, if you have a Solar subclass and you complete step one, then all you have to do is play two more matches with that subclass.
- Equipped as much Iron Banner armor as you can.
Two of the later steps in the quest for Forging Iron require you to earn rank points and complete the games with the equipped Iron Banner armor. For each piece of armor, you receive a rank multiplier. If you have four pieces of armor plus an equipped Iron Banner emblem, that multiplier is almost 4x, which means that you gain rank points four times faster, thus going through that step four times faster. Due to the way the mission follows your activity from the previous steps, you will have enough games finished with the Iron Banner armor equipped for step five before reaching it - provided you wear it from the beginning.
How to complete Forging Iron in Destiny 2
Wrought Iron Step 1 - Complete an Iron Banner match
The first step in the forging iron Destiny 2 The mission is to complete an Iron Banner match. That’s it. You don’t even have to win - just finish the game.
Step 2 - Complete one of the daily challenges
Step two requires you to complete one of the daily challenges. The first daily challenge of the week is to complete three Iron Banner games with either a Void or Solar subclass. If you have followed my training tips, then you will already have one of these matches over, so you only have to play two more.
Step 3 - Earn Iron Banner Rank points
Fortunately, every competing step in the Forging Iron mission counts your activity for the previous steps. In other words, the rank points you earned in steps one and two will count toward step three.
You need 300 total rank points to move on to step four, so it will take you a solid hour of play, depending on the length of the games.
Again, if you follow my advice and use multiple pieces of Iron Banner armor, then you’ll get a 3x or 4x multiplier for all your rank points, which literally reduces the time required to complete this step in less than half. . Also, if you play matches without leaving orbit, you will create a series that increases your rank and gain.
Step 4 - Collect an Iron Banner Engram from Saladin
If you played for Forging Iron in Destiny 2 with the Iron Banner equipment from step one, then this will probably be the last step of the search for you.
Just go back to the Tower and talk to Lord Saladin. Accept an engram from its vendor’s screen, and the mission will be completed automatically.
If the mission is not completed, it means that you still have to do step five.
In step five of Forging Iron, you must complete Iron Banner matches while wearing Iron Banner equipment. The set you use doesn’t matter, both Forerunner and Iron Truage should matter. If you don’t have Iron Banner armor, use the engram you just collected from Saladin to buy a piece.
Ideally, if you have extra frames, get as many pieces from a complete set as possible. The more pieces you wear, the faster this search step will progress.
Step 6 - Return to Saladin
After you’ve completed enough games for step five, all you have to do is go back to Lord Saladin back in the Tower. Talk to him and you’ll finish Forging Iron.
