How to increase the jump list items on Windows 10 and 11

Jump lists on Windows provide easy access to recent files. If you want to increase the items in the jump list on Windows, this guide will help you get started.

Access lists on Windows 10 and Windows 11 provide easy access to recently used files, folders, and websites. However, you may want to display more than the 10 recent items that Windows displays by default.

You can make Windows display more items on the jump lists by changing the registry. For example, you can set it to display around 15-20 items, which looks good on most screens.

This guide will show you how to increase the jump list items on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Expand the items in the jump list on Windows

We’ll show you how to zoom in on Windows 10. However, the process is the same on Windows 11.

Important: Before you begin, it is important to note that this trick requires you to modify your registry. Beginners shouldn’t do this, as entering the wrong value can make your PC unstable or stop working altogether. Before proceeding, back up your registry, create a restore point, or create a full system backup.

With backups, you can recover your system if something goes wrong.

To increase items in the jump list on Windows:

  1. Use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + R to launch Run dialogue.
  2. Type regedit and click K.Run the replay dialog
  3. When Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

  4. Right-click the Advanced key and select New> DWORD value (32 bits)..Expand the items in the jump list on Windows
  5. Name the new DWORD value as JumpListItems_Maximum.
  6. Double click JumpListItems_Maximum and change The base value for Decimal.
  7. Enter the number of items in the jump list in which you want to appear Value data box. Usually, 15-20 is a good value. You can go higher if you want, but you may need to scroll up to see all the items.

Increase jump list numbers on Windows 10 and 11

If you want to change the number of items in the backlit list, go back to Advanced key and set JumpListItems_Maximum value back to zero.

Microsoft used to allow you to change the number of recent items in the jump list through the properties of the taskbar in earlier versions of Windows, but has since removed the option. Fortunately, you can still make changes by browsing the Registry.

When it comes to the taskbar on Windows 11, there have been some changes from Windows 10. You may be interested in making more space available in the taskbar. There are other ways to customize the taskbar, including scrolling to the top of the screen. Even a simple setup allows you to move the taskbar and start to the left.
