If you need to hand your Chromebook to someone, you don’t want them to search your data. Here’s how to turn on guest mode on your Chromebook.

If you’ve ever borrowed someone’s Chromebook, it’s a good idea to use guest mode. You can offer them your Chromebook and use the Chrome browser in guest mode, but they can’t see your personal data.

As with your Android phone or personal computer, you don’t need people to sniff your private data. The good news is that we can fix the issue using guest mode so that they can use Chromebook or Chrome browser on their computer but not see your personal data.

Here’s how to turn on guest mode on your Chromebook and Chrome browser.

Guest mode vs. incognito mode on a Chromebook

It’s important to note that there is a difference between incognito mode and guest mode on a Chromebook.

Invited mode is a temporary Chromebook account that deletes all browsing data after it has been used. When the guest logs out, their data is deleted. So whatever the guest does will not be saved. Instead, you can browse as a guest in Chrome.

Incognito mode is best when browsing your computer privately using Google Chrome. It does not store cookies, browsing history or other browsing data. When you close your browser, all your browsing data disappears.

Don’t think of incognito as a way to stop privacy. Websites and your ISP can still see the sites you visit and the ads you interact with. Also, the incognito mode does it not hide your IP address. For something that hides your IP address, take a look at a VPN, such as Private Internet Access.

Once the user has logged out, all cookies, browsing history, application usage and other data will be deleted. Using guestbook mode on a Chromebook is a great way to check your emails or visit a site quickly. It is not intended for an entire workflow session. Also note that when a guest is on the Chromebook, they won’t have access to the owner’s user files.

Guest mode is an integral part of computers, and not just for Chrome and Chromebooks. So, for example, you can activate guest mode on Windows, and if you have an Android, you can activate guest mode on your phone.
