If you’re a fan of 100-hour Japanese RPGs and you happen to have a full Japanese PlayStation account with PS Plus Extra, then you just hit the gold. The new PS Plus, Premium and Extra levels have just been released in Japan, and the Extra option includes almost every Falcom RPG available on the PS4. (You can find a full list of PS Plus Extra launch games for Japan via the link.)
That’s right, Extra subscribers receive the two remastered Crossbell games, Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure, as well as all four Cold Steel series titles. Even Trails into Reverie is included - the game that takes place after the Cold Steel saga and will not be released here in the West until next year. Oh, and don’t forget the spin-off The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails. That’s it eight Highly appreciated JRPGs.
This is already an absurd amount of adventure - a catalog that could keep you busy for weeks, if not months. But it doesn’t stop there: PS Plus Premium subscribers have access to the older Trails in the Sky series via PS3 streaming. God!
And as if that weren’t enough, Falcom’s other major property, Ys, is also a big part of the PS Plus Extra package. The PS4 titles Ys: Memories of Celceta, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox are all there. Tokyo Xanadu eX + remastered action RPG as well.
Now, the big question: will any of these Falcom games be on PS Plus Extra outside of Japan? Honestly, probably not - Tokyo Xanadu, maybe - but obviously we can’t say for sure. Part of our reasoning is that the four Cold Steel games were made available via PS Now in Japan earlier this year, so it makes sense for them to be included in the PS Plus Extra. As for the other PS4 Trails titles … well, they haven’t been located yet!
So yeah, I wouldn’t have high hopes for you. However, this is an impressive offer for Japanese players and is worth noting, so we can compare how things are when Extra arrives abroad.
