Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that it has now sold over 20 million PS5 consoles worldwide. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the owner of the platform reached this figure shortly after his last financial reports in early May. At the time, Sony said it had delivered 19.3 million units, but now it has exceeded the threshold.
In a statement, SVP and Head of Global Sales and Business Operations Veronica Rogers thanked the fans for their continued support and assured that PS5 production will increase in the future. “For those fans who have not yet gotten their hands on a console, please know that we are planning a significant increase in PS5 production this year and we are working tirelessly to ensure that the PlayStation 5 is available to anyone who wants one. ,” she says.
Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad posted the following sales comparison between PS5 and PS4 to provide some insight:
Given that demand far exceeds supply due to ongoing problems with a shortage of parts, the PS5 is currently lagging behind in PS4 sales, but Sony aims to change that. The company estimates that the new console will surpass PS4 in 2024, assuming that it can fix everything as it intends.
