The champion of gaming phones returns on July 5. Asus is hosting an online launch event to unveil the new Asus ROG Phone 6, the latest version of what is arguably the best range of gaming-first smartphones available. It’s been more than a year since the launch of ROG Phone 5, so a sequel is a bit late. Here’s what Asus has in store for us.
Asus has chosen the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor for the phone, an expected move and a possible reason for the gestation period a little longer than the estimated one of the phone. The screen will be made by Samsung and will have a refresh rate of 165 Hz, increasing from 144 Hz on ROG Phone 5 and higher than 120 Hz on Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The screen size is not known at this time, but expect it to be about the same size of 6.78 inches as the previous model.
A “space-inspired look” is teased in terms of design, as well as the unique features that will enhance the game on the phone. Aside from the phone itself, Asus says it expects a range of accessories and gaming headphones to go with the ROG Phone 6, and these are the ones that keep Asus’ gaming phone ahead of the pack.
For the latest versions, Asus has delivered a collection of gaming peripherals, including controllers and accessories to connect your phone to a TV or monitor. They’re never cheap, but they add so much extra to the overall experience and turn what might just be another powerful phone into the center of a mobile gaming hub. Maybe put everything in another suitcase for hardcore fans.
On this subject, we will look to see if Asus also has a sequel to ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. The limited edition phone changed the RGB backlight on the standard ROG Phone 5 with a small screen and expanded the specifications to include 18 GB of RAM. It remains a very cool phone and we are definitely hoping for a new version.
Asus will unveil ROG Phone 6 on July 5 during an online event that will take place at 5:00 PT, 8:00 ET and 13:00 BST if you are in the UK. We’ll have all the news for you that day.
